With the launch of Whibbit.com Goundspeaks Signal the Frog is going to get a lot of new playmates visiting his lily pond! A Whibbit is a location-based question asked of one’s friends that is somewhere between 411 and 911 according to the whibbit.com site. I’m not so sure I know what that means without the context of geocaching attached, but I can easily see it as becoming the go-to smart phone application in the “phone a friend” arena. Whibbit.com is another foray into the social networking arena for Groundspeak. Per Jeremy Irish “For the geocachers, we’re using this as a testbed for social networking integration for Geocaching.com as well. We’ll have more Facebook and Twitter integration with Geocaching.com in the near future.” It seems all of those system upgrades over the last few months over at GC may indeed be leading the way into a more social geocaching web experience for all of us. “Whibbit!” (translation: “I like it!”)
Update: The Whibbit early Alpha release is offline while the Groundspeak Lackeys go over the preliminary data and do a bit of tweaking. The next release will likely be by invite only, but we will keep an eye on the site for the latest information. You never know, it may be back up this week… Lackeys can work pretty quickly with all the space they have over at the new LillyPad!
